今天香港傳媒報導「申請澳洲簽證時需提供生物識別數據之新安排」一事屬不正確報導。 香港特區護照、澳門特區護照、英國國民海外護照及中華人民共和國護照持有人在香港申請澳洲簽證時毋須提供生物識別數據。

Australian Immigration - Biometric Data Collection

Stories carried in Hong Kong media today carry misleading information about the introduction of biometric data collection for people applying for visas to Australia. Holders of Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, British National Overseas, and People’s Republic of China passports (among others) DO NOT need to provide biometric data when applying for visas to Australia in Hong Kong. Visa or travel authority application procedures for the above passport holders have not changed. While biometric data collection exemptions apply to several countries’ passport holders, in rare circumstances some visa applicants from these countries may still be required to undertake biometric collection in Hong Kong. 【本報訊】現時港人持特區護照到澳洲旅遊之前，可在網上辦理簽證。澳洲當局宣佈，本周五起將要求申請簽證的港人親身到簽證中心提供指紋，而且要額外收費。

須親身提供指紋
現時港人上網申請澳洲電子旅遊簽證（Electronic Travel Authority, ETA），只須付20澳元（約124港元）。但新措施實施後，申請者須額外付約389至429港元，作為申請及生物識別的費用。

澳洲當局昨宣佈，港人若親身前往鰂魚涌的澳洲簽證審批中心（AVAC）提交申請，中心將要求申請人提供生物識別資料，職員將替其拍攝容貌，並掃描10隻手指的指紋。以郵寄方式遞交表格的申請人將接獲當局回信，要求親身到中心提供指紋。網上申請者也可能有同樣安排，而到中心前必須預約。
