建議膠登改名為 Polytope

作為一個數學研究後學，先在此講解一下何為 Polytope。Polytope 係由 Hoppe, Hasse 等人發明這個德文字，當然現在多國語言都有這個字。Polytope 係指多維圖形，多胞圖形，基本上係數學上Geometry 中一個極大topics。Polytope 主要三個部份，頂 vertices, 面 faces, 邊 edges。圓形、三角形、正方形、平面多邊形都是 Polytope；即使是立方體、錐體一樣是Polytope。以下例子都是 Polytope：

為了分別，2D polytope 就寫 2-polytope; 3D 就 3-polytope; 去到 n- D 就 n-polytope。同樣，Polytope 一樣可以分確實及抽象。

抽象之下，這些 Polytope 都係相同。

係concrete polytope 之下，再可以按特性分 convex, regular, star-shaped。即是，Polytope 可以是面面均等，亦可以是如海膽般一個個釘形，更可以是部份平滑，部份球體化。但鑑於 polytope 的範圍太大，詳情可以參考一下 Polytopes 的專用書, 如 Zielger, Coxeter.

膠登著重的是只有一個「膠」字，否則高登或是低登根本無分別。望一望「膠」的形狀不定，在乎於各人的付出及設定，但就一定是 Polytope。聚言 Polymer 都是因「膠」一般以 Polymer 形成而選用 "Polymer" 一字。故此，Polytope 明顯見到與 Polymer 有關，而實際形狀則由各論者斷定。想要多幾面，多些深度增加維數，只會令Polymer 更複雜，再有更多特性。

另外，Polytope 係一個標準英文字，已有過百年歷史，有深度之餘，亦有學術成份。即使互鬥，只會將 Polytope 變做 star-shaped, 人要拿起手時就要小心免刺手，同一字亦可以解釋。

總結，我建議 HKGalden 改為 Polytope。願膠登成為一個越來越複雜的 Polytope。

我對 abstract polytopes 有興趣, 不過覺得改 Polytope 呢個名雖然過癮, 但係稍嫌 technical, 如果當中意義要解釋一輪啲人先明嘅話, 咁係咪一個適合嘅名就見仁見智.

不過既然咁啱有人講開就順便講少少 abstract (regular) polytopes, 睇吓有冇人有興趣討論.

其實 abstract polytopes 比傳統嘅 polytopes 更有趣, 因為有更多唔同嘅 combinatorial structures (數學往往就係咁, 一經 generalised 之後又去到另一個層次). 而 algebraists and in particular group theorists 對 abstract polytopes 較有興趣 (尤其係 regular polytopes, chiral polytopes 等), 因為涉及好多關於 symmetries 嘅問題, 而一講到 symmetries 就係 group theory 嘅範圍.

一個 abstract polytope 點為之 "regular" 呢? 簡單嚟講意思就係佢擁有 maximal symmetries (最多嘅對稱); 確切啲講, an abstract regular polytope is an abstract polytope whose automorphism group is transitive on the set of flags (a flag of a polytope P is a maximal chain of P).

咁一個 abstract polytope 點為之 "chiral" 呢? 簡單嚟講意思就係佢除咗冇 mirror symmetries (abstract reflections) 之外, 係對稱到唔可能再對稱; 確切啲講, an abstract polytope is chiral if its automorphism group has precisely 2 orbits on the flags, such that adjacent flags (i.e., flags that differ in a single face) belong to different orbits.
