FT POMPEY 3-0 Morecambe
好野
終於開齋
Portsmouth Football Club
Pompey cruised to their first victory of the season as they hit three goals past 10-man Morecambe.
All the damage was done in the first half, with Jed Wallace’s cool finish setting the tone.
David Connolly then made it three goals in the space of two matches before Andrew Wright was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Patrick Agyemang then curled home a third before the break to secure a comfortable three-point haul.
Guy Whittingham handed a debut to Marcos Painter, with the left-back replacing Danny East in the only change from the side that drew at Accrington last week.
Morecambe, meanwhile, were forced to make a late change to their line-up, with Barry Roche falling ill during the warm-up and replaced between the sticks by Andreas Arestidou.
Before kick-off there was a minute’s applause in memory of former Pompey duo Steve Aizlewood and Aaron Flahavan.
Aizlewood passed away last week, while it was recently the 12th anniversary of Flahavan’s tragic death.
Pompey almost broke the deadlock on two minutes after Andy Barcham’s cross found its way to Wallace at the far post.
The youngster’s fierce angled drive struck Morecambe skipper Mark Hughes and rolled across the line before hitting Robbie Threlfall and bounced to safety.
Romain Padovani also went close with a volley that flew narrowly over after the visitors had failed to fully clear a free-kick.
Morecambe’s only contribution early on was two pick up two yellow cards. Wright’s name was taken by referee Darren Drysdale for a cynical foul on Andy Barcham, while Andy Parrish was punished for a handball.
But Pompey were looking dangerous going forward and took the lead after 20 minutes when WALLACE raced onto an incisive pass from Agyemang and coolly steered the ball past Arestidou.
And things soon got even better for the Blues as they doubled their advantage thanks to a move started and finished by Connolly.
The striker won possession just outside his own area and fed Wallace, who ran half the length of the pitch before passing to Barcham.
The winger was challenged just as he shaped to shoot, but the ball fell kindly for CONNOLLY to slide home his third of the season.
Morecambe’s day then went from bad to worse on 36 minutes when Wright went in late on Barcham and was shown a second yellow card before a subsequent red.
Connolly almost managed to exploit the numerical advantage straight away, but his close-range header was clawed off the line by Arestidou.
But the stand-in skipper played a big part in Pompey’s third of the afternoon on 39 minutes, teeing-up AGYEMANG to curl home a fine finish off the inside of the post.
Half Time: Pompey 3 Morecambe 0
Pompey were not content to sit on their three-goal lead and came out for the second half with an attacking mindset.
They had an early chance to extend their lead, but Agyemang fired into the side netting after receiving a pass from Wallace.
Whittingham then made his first change on 56 minutes, with Danny East replacing Simon Ferry in the centre of midfield.
The Blues kept trying to drive at Morecambe’s defence, although both Connolly and Agyemang were frustrated by the linesman’s flag.
Ricky Holmes replaced Yassin Moutaouakil for Pompey’s second substitution on 67 minutes, taking his place on the wing with East dropping into defence.
Phil Smith was enjoying a quiet afternoon at the other end of the pitch and watched on comfortably as Ryan Williams’ long-range drive sailed wide.
Tom Craddock was then sent on for the final 15 minutes, with the hard-working Agyemang making way to rapturous applause.
The second half was certainly not as fluid as the first, although Painter went close to making it a memorable debut with a low drive that was held by Arestidou.
The keeper than raced quickly off his line to stop Holmes from opening his goalscoring account and limit the damage for the Shrimps.
