巴塞羅那襲擊發生後數小時，西班牙警方在距離巴塞羅那百多公里的坎布里爾斯瓦解另一宗恐怖襲擊，擊斃五名恐怖分子，另有一人受傷，相信事件和巴塞羅那的襲擊有關。

入夜後，坎布里爾斯街頭傳出多次槍聲。

加泰羅尼亞警方其後證實，他們在當地採取反恐行動。

有目擊者拍到最少三人倒臥地上，警方表示行動中擊斃了五名企圖襲擊者，另外一名襲擊者受傷，事件中亦有六名平民和一名警員受傷。

坎布里爾斯情況目前已受控，警員正調查襲擊者身上是否綁有炸彈腰帶，又相信這宗企圖襲擊和巴塞羅那恐襲，以及加泰羅尼亞另一城市阿爾卡納爾周四，一間房屋發生爆炸造成一死的事件有關。
