Twitter announced on Monday it would be joining Google and Facebook in banning the advertising of cryptocurrencies on its platform, the company said in a statement.
Advertisements that promote initial coin offerings (ICOs) and token sales will be completely banned while cryptocurrency exchanges and wallets will be restricted only to companies that are listed on major stock markets.
The new measure, which takes effect tomorrow, was designed in an effort to avert fraud. "We are committed to ensuring the safety of the Twitter community. As such, we have added a new policy for Twitter Ads relating to cryptocurrency," the social media giant told the Verge.
