由中聯辨控制的《大公報》，8月底刊登報道，指控英國駐香港總領事向「華人民主書院」批出撥款，資助「亂華項目」，英國駐香港總領事向大公報總編發信，反駁《大公報》的報道factually inaccurate(失實)和misleading(誤導)，要求《大公報》撤回報道。

但《大公報》未有撤回報道之餘，昨日刊登跟進報道，指英國駐香港總領事「證『獨書院』伸手要錢」，又稱英國駐香港總領事亦未有回應他們的追問。
